Cold Treatment

• Treatments for a common cold include�OTC medications to ease congestion or sneezing.
• Home remedies like salt gargles can also ease symptoms, while rest and hydration can help your body recover from a cold.
• Sometimes, a cold can be mistaken for other upper respiratory infections or infections like the flu.
• Nasal symptoms include:

  • stuffy nose
  • loss of smell or taste
  • sneezing
  • watery nasal secretions
  • postnasal drip or drainage in the back of your throat

Ear Pain Treatment

It usually occurs in children, but it can occur in adults as well. An earache may affect one or both ears, but the majority of the time it�s in one ear. It may be constant or come and go, and the pain may be dull, sharp, or burning.

Young children who have ear infections tend to be fussy and irritable. They may also tug or rub their ears.

Symptoms�

• ear pain
• muffled hearing or difficulty responding to sounds
• fever
• sense of fullness in the ear
• difficulty sleeping
• tugging or pulling at the ear
• crying or acting irritable more than usual
• headache
• loss of appetite
• loss of balance

Ent Examination

A complete ENT examination includes an inspection of the face, ears, nose, throat, and neck. We generally screen for hearing loss and we use pressure testing to examine the eardrum for fluid (pneumatic otoscopy or tympanometry).�

The specialty nasal examination is usually performed with a headlight or mirror and a handheld speculum that allows us to examine the nasal septum and turbinates closely.�

The nose will often be examined before and after the application of a decongestant nose spray.� The most unique part of the ENT visit is an examination of the voice box and the back of the nose using hand-held mirrors in the mouth.�

Ent Checkup (General)

It is the most commonly performed diagnostic procedure in patients with nasal, sinus, or allergy complaints.

The physician or nurse practitioner will then pass a small telescope into the nostril to obtain a magnified view.� We can readily identify abnormal swelling, enlarged turbinates, nasal polyps, septal deformities, and sinus drainage.�

This is especially helpful for patients who have difficulty sitting still for the mirror examination.

Hearing Deficiency Assessment among others.

Audiometric testing�is commonly performed for patients with complaints of hearing loss, ringing in the ears, or balance disorders.�

Patients who are cooperative enough to follow instructions can be more precisely tested in our acoustically isolated testing booth.� The audiologist records the quietest sounds you can hear at each frequency, in each ear.�

The resulting graph is called an audiogram. Tympanometry is a quick and painless way to measure the barometric pressure in the middle ear
